Seeker Friendly Churches April 10, 2006

(This piece is written from God’s perspective and written in response to a conversation with a man, who told me confidentially, that our church was seeker friendly. He said that they didn’t want to offend people, and this was why they were different from the original denomination we were in.  This angered me so much, because the Bible says that signs and wonders are for the unbeliever.  People are seeking the supernatural.  Why would we want to hide the “real deal”, the supernatural power of God?  This text seems harsh and corrective, but it is done in love.  Real correction is sometimes necessary in the Church, to bring about a change of thinking, and get us back on the right track, so we can concentrate on the Great Commission.  Some say it is prophetic, others say it is from unresolved anger–you decide.)

Seeker Friendly churches

You hide God,

to draw the masses.

You withold my

signs and wonders from them.

How dare you hide Me!

How dare you think

that I,

God Almighty

has to be in a box!

You think that I am

an Embarrassment.

You are ashamed of

My Holy Spirit.

You draw the masses

with your programs.

Yet none are prepared

for the days to come!

You speak only of

Grace and Mercy

Yet you never speak

of my Judgements.

I am a Righteous Judge!

The masses you’ve drawn

Don’t know Me

They’re not prepared

for the days to come.

You’ve tickled their ears

with casual speeches.

You preachers speak

only in half truths.

If you love your people

Show them all of Me–

Embrace Me.

Then they will know

You can not contain God!

It is not about programs

It is about worshiping Me!

And not just for

20 minutes on a Sunday!

You separate the children

From the parents

With your programs and your sweets.

The children of America

Don’t need anymore programs!

They don’t want candy,

They want Jesus!

They want to “do the stuff”!

Seeker Friendly pastors

I know you love me, but

The masses you’ve drawn

Don’t know Jesus.

They don’t know what My Son

Died for.

They’ve found “purpose”

But have no understanding

Of the Blood.

They are not prepared

For the White Throne

Of Judgement,

And their blood is on

Your hands.

Pastors Seek Me

Embrace Me

Invite My Holy Spirit

into your services

And See

What Can Be Done!

This is a wonderful poem, expressing the essence of the spiritual bankruptcy we are seeing in these seeker-friendly churches, and the pastors who will be called in account by God for their not teaching the whole counsel of God. Keep posting away and let others know, and remember: What You Make Happen For Others, God Will Make Happen For You (Eph. 6:8).

Very well done poem. Very well done site. This is kind of new to me as I haven’t had much experience with “seeker friendly” churches. But my experience with mainstream churches (Episcopalian and Methodist) is not unsimilar: cutting out the “unpleasant” parts of the Gospel to make people feel better.

All churches are not the same – It’s not wise to blanket all churches or church leaders who use the phrase “seeker friendly” or “seeker sensitive” as weak on the gospel message. I think many churches are weak – calling for easy faith and labeling those that ask for a real commitment as legalistic or even heretical. How do we avoid being a cult with non-biblical commitments and incorrect dogmatic doctrinal demands while at the same time, helping people struggle with the truth of the faith, STARTING at conversion? I don’t have the answers, but I do know that the phase “seeker friendly” is not the enemy. (Note that I don’t use that phrase myself, I’m simply making an observation and adding to this discussion)
